An Analysis of Radiological Studies on Bronchiectasis


Abstract
During four years from November, 1974 to August, 1978, it was investigated clinical and radiological findings of 70 cases of bronchiectasis, proved by bronchography in National Medical Center.
Results were as follows:
1) Male was more affected than female, the ratio of male to female was 2:1. The peak age incidence was 20-29 year old (46%).
2) The chief symptoms of bronchiectasis were cough, sputum and hemoptysis.
3) The duration of illness was almost Ir within 10 years.
4) Main clinical signs was moist rales and wheezing heared over the affected area of the lung, but no clinical signs was found in 34% of;cases.
5) A simple chest P-A film revealedpvarious findings highly suggestive bronchiectasis in most of cases, but normal in 6% of cases.
6) The extent of the disease was much more involved to-the left lower lobe then the right.
The involvement was usually the left lower lobe, right lower lobe and the lingular segment in that order. Bilateral involvement was approximately 24% incidence.
